Freelance Lead Azure Integration EngineerFor a valued client of Tergos in the Randstad region, we are currently looking for a Freelance Lead Integration Engineer with strong experience in designing, building, and leading modern integration platforms within Azure. Are you a hands-on integration specialist with a strong vision on API platforms, cloud-native architecture, and automation? Then this opportunity could be a great fit.

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Contract: 6 months (extension possible)
  • Hours: 36-40 hours per weekYour role as Lead Azure Integration EngineerIn this role, you will take ownership of the Azure-based integration platform, combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will be responsible for shaping, improving, and scaling the API platform while supporting multiple teams across the organization. You will:
  • Lead the design and evolution of a future-proof Azure API platform
  • Act as a technical lead for API and integration-related topics
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable integration solutions
  • Guide development teams in building and consuming APIs
  • Drive best practices around integration architecture, governance, and security
  • Take ownership of platform reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency

What you will be doing:

  • Set up and manage Azure API Management as a central integration layer
  • Define and implement API standards (policies, versioning, lifecycle management)
  • Build and maintain integrations using Azure-native services
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Bicep/Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Improve observability using tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
  • Ensure API security (OAuth2, JWT, rate limiting, IP filtering, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams
  • Contribute to and help drive an internal Integration Community
  • Maintain documentation and support audits and compliance processes
  • Oversee the full lifecycle: design, build, test, release, and maintenance

What you bring:

  • Strong experience with Azure API Management in enterprise environments
  • Proven experience in a lead or senior integration role
  • Solid understanding of API design, governance, and lifecycle management
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep or Terraform)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably Azure DevOps YAML)
  • Strong knowledge of observability and monitoring tooling
  • Deep understanding of API security (OAuth2, JWT, throttling, etc.)
  • Familiarity with integration patterns and OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) and Dutch (pré)
